Standing in Solidarity With Puerto Rico

Stand in Solidarity with Puerto Rico  Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of the members and teachers who have collected supplies for the Puerto Rico relief drive! From all over the Orange County supplies are coming into CTA.
There is a humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico and there really is something we can do to help. We have partnered with AFT, Asociación de Maestros de Puerto Rico, and CASA to arrange that all of the supplies that we collect will be transported to Puerto Rico for distribution to those in need. We have also partnered with the Foundation for Orange County Public Schools to collect school supplies to fill backpacks for new students coming from Puerto Rico. We must act quickly!
Please bring all the donations you’ve collected to the CTA Office at the Marion Cannon Center for Advocacy, 1020 Webster Avenue, Orlando, FL 32804. Hours are Monday – Friday 8:00am – 6:00pm.
We will accept donations until we can fill a container. The donations will be transported to Jacksonville where they will be shipped to Asociación de Maestros de Puerto Rico, the AFT teacher union office in San Juan. These supplies will be immediately distributed to families in the city and in other areas of the island. The list of needed supplies is at this link.
Aside from collecting supplies, bilingual CTA members are meeting new arrivals from Puerto Rico at the Orlando Airport Welcome Center. The center was set up to assist those who are relocating to Central Florida. It offers information and services from state and federal agencies and nonprofits, including driver's licenses, healthcare, social security, employment opportunities, housing, FEMA and school registration. CTA member and Colonial High School teacher, Johanna Lopez is coordinating the airport effort.
Please show your generosity and support our Puerto Rican sisters and brothers!
