Orlando Makes History!

July 2018

On Monday, July 23, 2018, Orlando made history! The City Beautiful, already known as an inclusive city, opened its arms even wider as our City Commission voted unanimously to pass the Trust Act policy, becoming the first southern city to do so. May every city in our country follow our city's courageous, moral action.
The Orange County Classroom Teachers Association is proud to be part of Trust Coalition made of 36 of Orlando's most committed social justice organizations who worked 18 months to make the passage of this act a reality. FEA Vice President Fedrick Ingram came all the way from Tallahassee to join us for this most emotional and amazing day.
Now every Orlando resident can interact with law enforcement without fear -including reporting a crime- without fear of deportation for themselves or a family member. Because of this courageous and bold action, our city will be a safer place for all.

On July 25th Senator Elizabeth Warren held a conference call with the Trust Coalition organizers, including CTA President Doromal and Jill Hakemian. Senator Warren said, “Terrific work. I'm so grateful for all you've done. This is really about how we make communities work, and how we protect our most vulnerable communities and fight against anti-immigrant rhetoric. You've come up with something practical and useful and historic. That's fabulous, and that's why I wanted to call. . . It is truly my privilege and honor to fight along with you."
Now let’s follow Broward, Brevard and Palm Beach School Boards’ lead to pass a School Board Resolution declaring OCPS schools safe and welcoming to all!
